We are currently looking for a Laboratory Assistant – Laborantin (m/f) for our Legal Medicine department, Forensic Toxicology service, for a temporary position of 1 year on a full-time basis (40h/week)


ABOUT THE LABORATOIRE NATIONAL DE SANTÉ:


The LNS is a major player in Luxembourg’s healthcare sector, serving the country’s patients, doctors and hospitals. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Social Security, the LNS is a multidisciplinary public institution organized around six medical departments, two of which are designated as national diagnostic centers for human genetics and pathology respectively.


The LNS employs around 400 highly qualified staff with diverse backgrounds. The main purpose of the LNS is to develop analytical activities and scientific expertise relating to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases; to act as a national control or reference laboratory; and to carry out forensic missions. The LNS also collaborates with the University of Luxembourg and other biomedical research institutions, both nationally and internationally, on research and teaching activities.


In particular, in the field of diagnostics, the LNS covers the following fields of application: medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine, environmental medicine, morphological and molecular pathology, and clinical genetics, as well as sequencing for rare diseases, oncology and pathogens.


ABOUT THE FORENSIC TOXICOLOGY SERVICE:


The service carries out analyses of human biological samples (blood, urine, hair, etc.) at the request of and in collaboration with mainly judicial authorities in cases of driving or drugs committed under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, driving accidents, workplace accidents, drug-facilitated sexual assaults and forensic autopsies. Additionally, the service also works with government authorities, addiction treatment centers, laboratories, public research centers, and prisons. Furthermore, the service is a reference laboratory for toxicological hair testing in Luxembourg and neighboring countries.


RESPONSABILITIES:


* Preparation and extraction of human biological samples (mainly blood,/plasma/ serum, urine and hair);
* Perform analyses using following techniques: immunoassay, GC-MS, GC-MS/MS, HS-GC-MS, HPLC-UV,LC-MS/MS and LC-HRMS analyses;
* Perform maintenance and periodic checks on laboratory instruments and equipment;
* Method development and optimization;
* Participate in the team’s efforts for management of stocks of reagents, consumables and samples;
* Participate in the ISO 17025 quality management system.


PROFILE:


* Diploma (BAC+3) in laboratory science or laboratory technician;
* Theoretical and practical knowledge of analytical toxicology/chemistry;
* Theoretical and practical knowledge of forensic toxicology would be an asset;
* Theoretical and practical knowledge of ISO 17025 would be an asset;
* Proficiency in the Windows IT environment and MS Office tools;
* Awareness of health and safety rules and compliance with laboratory procedures;
* Very good organizational and communication skills;
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
* Ability to work accurately, meticulously and under pressure;
* Strong sense of responsibility and confidentiality;
* Ability to make decisions and take initiative;
* Proficiency in French (spoken and written) and good professional English skills. Knowledge of German or Luxemburgish would be an asset.
