L’unité de Modélisation atmosphérique et cartographie environnementale (MOCA) develops and uses tools for air quality management in research, support to public authorities, and client requests both in France, Europe, and internationally. Applications include exposure assessments, short-term forecasts, and long-term projections at various spatial scales from industrial sites to entire continents.

INERIS's expertise in this field is widely recognized through numerous research and operational projects supporting policymakers and international organizations.

Within this team of about ten engineers, you will contribute to studies on air quality, participate in research, and support the institute's engagement with public decision-makers and international development efforts.

Your role will involve modeling activities related to the regional chemistry-transport model CHIMERE and its post-processing, including consolidating operational modeling chains for the Prev’air platform and European forecasts for the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service.

Key activities include:

1. Monitoring CHIMERE simulations in high-performance computing environments;
2. Evaluating model performance against regulatory air quality observations;
3. Implementing machine learning post-processing algorithms for mapping and indicator calculation;
4. Ensuring operational efficiency and optimizing computational costs;
5. Contributing to study reports and dissemination of results.

Candidate Profile: You hold an engineering degree in atmospheric physics, chemistry, fluid mechanics, scientific computing, or data science related to environmental data. You have strong programming skills in Linux high-performance computing environments, Python, shell scripting, Fortran, GIT, R, and GIS, along with experience in developing digital analysis tools.

Additional Skills:

* Excellent command of English (written and spoken);
* Teamwork and project management skills;
* Strong oral and written communication skills, including technical report writing and presenting in meetings, sometimes in English.
