Ingénieur.e d’études en Informatique / Réalité Virtuelle
Join us to apply for the Ingénieur.e d’études en Informatique / Réalité Virtuelle role at INSA Rennes.
About Us
INSA Rennes is the leading public engineering school in Brittany, hosting 2,040 students and apprentices. Annually, over 340 engineers, 60 master's students, and 40 PhD graduates are produced. The institution comprises 9 departments, offers 8 engineering specialties (including 2 via apprenticeship), and oversees 7 research laboratories. It employs approximately 540 public agents (researchers, teachers, administrative staff) and over 70 external contractors from industry.
Mission
Within the framework of a project responding to the PIA4 DemoES call, the Seamless team at IRISA/Inria Rennes is working to incorporate virtual reality, especially its educational applications, into the DemoES AIR project, which aims to enhance interactions in Rennes. Partners include the University of Rennes, Rennes 2 University, INSA Rennes, educational partners, and industry players.
In this project, INSA Rennes and the Seamless team aim to further develop research on complex virtual reality application scenarization, focusing on pedagogical aspects. The role involves proposing a VR demonstrator for higher education, centered on non-Euclidean geometries, requiring specific pedagogical approaches, visual elements, immersive VR techniques, and interaction design. User testing will be part of the work, conducted in collaboration with researchers and engineers from INSA Rennes involved in DemoES AIR.
The engineer will contribute to developing project demonstrators such as:
* Soldering training
* Training on non-Euclidean geometries
* Medical exams training for Rennes Faculty of Medicine
The team has developed models #FIVE and #SEVEN, reaching TRL 6-7 with the Xareus software. #FIVE supports creating VR applications involving numerous interactive objects, while #SEVEN facilitates complex scenario development based on Petri nets. These tools are well-suited for pedagogical applications, and further integration of pedagogical elements into VR applications is envisioned. The work will be research-driven, incorporating innovative solutions and leveraging Rennes' Immerstar VR platforms and broader educational infrastructure.
