Topic description

Cette thèse vise à reconstituer les variations climatiques rapides du dernier cycle glaciaire à partir de séquences lœss–paléosols du Grand Est et du nord de la France. Elle s'appuie sur l'analyse isotopique (δ¹⁸O, δ¹³C, Δ₄₇) de granules de calcite produits par les vers de terre, calibrées à partir de granules extraits de sols modernes. Ces traceurs permettront d'obtenir des reconstitutions quantitatives des températures et des conditions hydroclimatiques continentales. Le projet contribuera à combler le déficit d'archives continentales aux latitudes moyennes européennes. Il éclairera également sur les interactions entre climat, sols et sociétés humaines préhistoriques face aux changements climatiques rapides.

This PhD thesis aims to reconstruct the rapid climatic variations of the last glacial cycle using loess–paleosol sequences from the Grand Est region and northern France. It is based on the isotopic analysis (δ¹⁸O, δ¹³C, Δ₄₇) of calcite granules produced by earthworms, calibrated using granules extracted from modern soils. These tracers will enable quantitative reconstructions of temperatures and continental hydroclimatic conditions. The project will help address the lack of continental archives at European mid-latitudes. It will also shed light on the interactions between climate, soils, and prehistoric human societies in the face of rapid climate change.
