About The Position
The Head of Technology provides strategic and technical leadership across the division, working closely with Studio Technical Directors (dotted line) to ensure the successful development of games for consoles, PC, and mobile devices. The role covers a broad scope—from defining and guiding the technical vision and architecture to overseeing pipeline implementation, AI strategy, and knowledge-sharing initiatives. This leader also plays a critical role in nurturing technical talent, improving multi-studio collaboration, and ensuring strategic alignment across teams. Additionally, the role maintains strong relationships with hardware and software partners, contributes to vendor strategy, supports M&A due diligence, and brings strong technical and business acumen to guide decision-making across the division.
Responsibilities
* Division-Wide Tech Strategy: Define and implement the division’s technical strategy in close collaboration with Studio Technical Directors. Promote adoption of best practices and ensure studios remain competitive through the strategic integration of emerging technologies, including generative AI (e.g., LLMs) in both programming and creative development processes.
* Technical Guidance & Collaboration: Provide direction and support to Studio TDs, guiding the resolution of complex development challenges and aligning solutions across studios for consistency and efficiency.
* Leadership & Talent Management: Set technical vision and performance expectations for Studio TDs (dotted-line), in coordination with Studio General Managers (direct-line of Studio TDs). Inspire, coach, and mentor senior technical leaders. Lead quarterly talent reviews and co-decide on structural or personnel changes to studio tech teams in line with studio goals.
* Training & Knowledge Sharing: Partner with Studio TDs to develop studio-specific training programs. Coordinate guilds and communities of practice to ensure continuous learning and effective knowledge sharing across all studios.
* Client & Partner Engagement: Represent the division in technical discussions with clients, platform holders, and industry vendors. Maintain strong relationships with hardware/software manufacturers and support strategic partnerships.
* Innovation Leadership: Drive the exploration and adoption of new technologies, tools, and methods to elevate game development capabilities. Champion a culture of innovation, experimentation, and forward-thinking within the division.
Qualifications
* Proven experience (10+ years) in senior technical leadership roles within the video game industry, with a strong focus on console game development.
* Strong background in game programming, systems architecture, or engine development, with a deep understanding of C++-based pipelines and real-time performance optimization.
* Demonstrated success leading multi-site or cross-functional technical teams and solving complex development challenges at scale.
* Expert-level understanding of game engines (such as Unreal or Unity), tools, and middleware (e.g., Havok, FMOD, PhysX), and familiarity with cloud services or distributed systems.
* Strong knowledge of development methodologies, CI/CD pipelines, version control, and scalable production workflows.
* Skilled in guiding technical strategy, aligning teams to division-wide goals, and fostering collaboration across studios.
* Experienced in mentoring senior-level engineers or technical directors, with a proven ability to nurture high-performing teams.
* Strategic thinker with a strong business mindset; able to connect technical innovation with business outcomes.
* Clear, confident communicator who can translate complex technical concepts to varied audiences.
* Committed to building a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and operational excellence across the division.
